Most Edinburgh homeowners who get in touch with us start with a phone call or a quick message through the website. From there, the process is straightforward. You tell us what you are thinking, we listen, and we arrange a time to come out and take a proper look at the space.
There is no pressure at that stage. You are not committing to anything by picking up the phone. A lot of people are still at the early stages of deciding what they want, and that is completely fine.
The Free Home Survey
One of our team will visit your Edinburgh property to measure up the opening and talk through your options in your own home. This is not a sales visit. It is a practical conversation about what will actually work in your space, what sizes are available, and what the finished result is likely to look like.
Measuring accurately matters more than people realise. A patio door that does not fit the opening correctly causes problems for years. We take precise measurements on site so that what gets manufactured is exactly right for your home. You also get a written quote that covers everything, with no hidden extras added on later.
Choosing the Right Patio Doors for Your Home
There are three main styles to consider. Sliding patio doors work well where you do not have room for a door to swing open. The panels glide to one side, and the large glass area lets in a lot of natural light without taking up any floor space. They come in two, three, or four panel configurations depending on the width of your opening.
French doors open outward as a pair and suit properties where you want a more traditional look. They create a wide, clear opening and sit nicely on both older Edinburgh sandstone homes and newer builds. Bi-fold doors are the third option, folding back in sections to open up almost the full width of your wall. These are popular for larger kitchen extensions and rear living rooms.
On materials, uPVC is the practical choice for most people. It performs well thermally, requires very little upkeep, and holds its colour without painting. Aluminium suits those who want a slimmer frame and a more contemporary finish. Both materials are available in a wide range of colours, including anthracite grey, black, white, cream, and a range of woodgrain finishes. You can also choose different colours for the inside and outside faces.
Manufacturing and Lead Times
Once you have confirmed your order and your measurements are finalised, your patio doors go into production. Lead times vary depending on style and specification, but most installations in Edinburgh are booked in within a few weeks of ordering. We will give you a realistic timescale when you place your order, not a vague estimate that keeps moving.
Every door is manufactured to the exact dimensions taken during your survey. The glazing units are A-rated for energy efficiency, filled with argon gas, and fitted with warm edge spacer bars to reduce heat loss around the edges of the glass. Security features are built in during manufacturing, including multi-point locking systems and toughened safety glass as standard.
What to Expect on Fitting Day
Our fitting team will arrive at the agreed time and get straight to work. The old door or opening is removed carefully, and the new frame is fitted and sealed properly before the glazed panels go in. Most patio door installations in a standard Edinburgh home take between half a day and a full day, depending on the complexity of the job and whether any adjustments are needed to the surrounding structure.
The team will clear up as they go and leave the area tidy when they are finished. Before they leave, they will walk you through how to operate the locking system, adjust the hinges or rollers if needed, and check that everything is working correctly. You should feel completely confident using your new doors before anyone leaves the site.
Aftercare and the 10-Year Guarantee
Every patio door we supply and install in Edinburgh comes with a full 10-year guarantee on the frames, glazing, and hardware. If anything goes wrong within that period, contact us and we will sort it. You will not be passed from one department to another or asked to chase a manufacturer directly.
Day to day, uPVC and aluminium patio doors need very little attention. An occasional wipe down with soapy water and a light application of oil to the hinges and locking points once a year is usually enough to keep everything working smoothly for a long time.
If you are ready to get things moving, give us a call on 0131 218 1009. We cover Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, and the initial survey is completely free with no obligation to go ahead.
